Development and Playesting

Deer Dash allows the player to delve  deeper into  the magical world of the deer and go on an adventure with him as he ventures through the mystical forest.

The development process was a little slow. However, we decided to start with a very basic skeleton with no assets and just basic gameobjects. We then added the assets, and began to incorporate more challenges into the game.

Playtesting the game was challenging at parts because we did not have all the levels completed therefore having a good understanding of the flow of the game as well as the transitions between levels was hard. However, from the levels that users were able to play we got some useful feedback such as having a better view of the environment the player is in so they are aware of any enemies/collectibles in order for them to plan their next move accordingly. In addition, we got feedback to play around with the force the deer jumped with as in some cases it was too small and in other cases it was too big. Additionally, we got the same comment for the speed. These comments were very useful as the changes we made because of these comments helped us make our game a little more challenging as well as enabled us to provide the player with a better experience.

We playtested each level on an iphone several times to make sure that the positioning of all the elements of the level made the levels playable, yet still challenging. During the playtesting process, we would adjust the jump force and the positions of each platform so that the platforms were all reachable to the player.
